A rare and authentic pair of ‘Fauteuil en Teck’ (commonly known as “King” chairs) designed by Pierre Jeanneret, circa 1955, for the modernist city of Chandigarh, India.

Crafted from solid teak with hand-woven cane backs and seats, these striking examples were originally commissioned for the Bureau of Statistics, as evidenced by the original hand-painted inventory markings: B.S-3 and B.S-9. Featuring Jeanneret’s iconic “V” leg construction and gently curving armrests, this pair exemplifies the sculptural clarity and utilitarian elegance that defined his contribution to Chandigarh’s utopian design vision.

The chairs show exceptional patina and wear consistent with age and institutional use, including remnants of the original cane work—preserved in as-found condition to maintain historical integrity.

These chairs are not just functional objects but storied artifacts from one of the most ambitious architectural projects of the 20th century. Provenance: Bureau of Statistics, Chandigarh, India Commissioned circa 1955 All prices include the full restoration of the piece.
