A striking and authentic pair of Pierre Jeanneret “Easy Chairs” (also known as Committee Easy Chairs, Model PJ-SI-29 / PJ-SI-28A variant), designed for the Chandigarh Government and Educational Institutions during India’s great modernist experiment of the 1950s and ’60s.
Each chair is constructed from solid teak, with Jeanneret’s unmistakable V-leg structure, angular armrests, and hand-woven cane seat and backrest. Their sculptural geometry and honest materiality express Jeanneret’s belief that furniture should be both architectural and humane — functional, durable, and rooted in local craftsmanship.
Both examples retain original stenciled inventory markings, recording their provenance from two of Chandigarh’s most important civic and academic settings:
- P.G.I / CH / 089 — Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh
- D.A.V / Biology / CH-21 — D.A.V. College, Biology Department, Chandigarh
All vintage items include a certificate of authenticity.
