Pair of Box Chairs (Student Housing Sect. Chandigarh)

A rare matched pair of original “Box Chairs” (Model PJ-SI-28-A) designed for the Chandigarh student housing sector in the mid-1950s. Crafted in solid teak with the signature inverted V-leg structure and flat armrests, these chairs were part of the official furnishings used in university hostels and institutional residences. Both chairs retain their authentic government inventory markings: One marked “BH-4/214”, denoting Boys Hostel No. 4, Chair No. 214. The other with layered codes: “H-3-316-8” (Hostel 3, Room 316, Seat 8), later reassigned and overmarked “BH-3/U7A”, reflecting its continued institutional use.
