Pierre Jeanneret Pair of PJ-SI-10-A Fireside Chairs, PAU Provenance
Taxes & duties included
Pair of PJ-SI-10-A “Fireside” chairs by Pierre Jeanneret, produced in India during the Chandigarh period, circa 1960s.
The low-slung frames are constructed in solid wood, likely teak, with tapered legs, inclined side supports, and rectangular open backrests. Both the seat and back were originally fitted with woven cane and retain the perimeter holes from the original caning.
Each chair bears period institutional stenciling to the rear rail reading “P.A.U. / ADM / BLOCK …”, indicating provenance from Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana. The markings most likely refer to the university’s administrative block and provide direct evidence of institutional use.
The PJ-SI-10-A was designed by Jeanneret as part of the Chandigarh furniture program and is characterized by its low proportions, simple structural frame, and caned seat and back.
